ClickHouse

ClickHouse develops the eponymous column-oriented database, purpose-built for analytical queries (OLAP) rather than individual transactions. Because data is stored by column, ClickHouse says it processes most queries at least 100 times faster than row-oriented alternatives, returning results in milliseconds even across billions of rows.

The official, open-source ClickHouse MCP Server lets AI agents query ClickHouse databases directly — for example, phrasing an analysis in natural language instead of writing SQL by hand.

The project can be self-hosted for free or used as a managed service via ClickHouse Cloud on AWS, GCP, and Azure starting at $50 per month. With more than 50,000 GitHub stars, over 3,200 contributors, and customers including Meta, Microsoft, Spotify, and eBay, ClickHouse is an established name in analytics databases; its acquisition of Langfuse further extends its offering into LLM observability.

With its acquisition of Langfuse, ClickHouse extended its offering into LLM observability — tracking and analyzing requests to large language models — a natural extension given its own role as the analytics backend behind many AI applications. ClickHouse Cloud is available across all three major hyperscalers (AWS, GCP, and Azure) and can be trialed risk-free with a 30-day trial period and starting credits.

ClickHouse originated in 2009 inside the Russian search engine company Yandex, built to analyze web analytics data in real time, before being spun out as an independent company in 2021. That origin in an extremely high-volume use case still shapes the project's architectural decisions today.
