Anysphere

Anysphere, Inc. is the company behind Cursor, an AI-powered code editor that describes itself as "your coding agent for building ambitious software." Rather than just autocompletion, Cursor's agentic capabilities handle entire tasks end-to-end — from planning through building to testing and presenting the result — letting developers focus more on decisions than on writing every individual line of code.

Cursor works across multiple environments: as a desktop IDE, via a CLI tool, inside Slack, and directly within GitHub pull request reviews. Cloud agents can also work in parallel on longer-running tasks across hours or days. On model choice, Cursor isn't locked to a single provider: users can pick between models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and Cursor's own models.

According to the company, more than half of the Fortune 500 use Cursor, including NVIDIA with roughly 40,000 engineers, as well as Stripe.

In August 2026, Anysphere was acquired by SpaceX for $60 billion — one of the largest acquisitions of a previously venture-backed startup ever, and a clear signal of how central AI-assisted software development has become even for companies outside the traditional tech industry.

Cursor's own models, such as Composer, help reduce latency for frequent, smaller code changes, without always having to fall back on a slower external model for every request.
