Granola MCP Server

Official Granola MCP for meeting notes, transcripts, and decisions through natural language in an AI client.

Description

The Granola MCP Server is Granola's official Model Context Protocol integration. Granola, according to its maker, records audio from video calls or in-person conversations, automatically transcribes it, and turns handwritten bullet points into structured, searchable notes. The MCP Server opens this note archive to MCP-capable AI clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, or Claude Code, so meeting history, transcripts, and decisions can be queried directly from the chat window without opening the Granola interface.

The server runs exclusively as a hosted remote service at the endpoint https://mcp.granola.ai/mcp. No local installation is required; MCP clients with Streamable HTTP transport connect to it directly. Authentication uses browser-based OAuth, where the client signs in with an existing Granola account and credentials are then managed automatically. For organizations with their own identity provider, Granola's documentation also describes Enterprise-Managed Authorization (EMA), for example through Okta-compatible identity providers.

Searching and querying notes

At the center is the query_granola_meetings tool, which lets you ask questions about your notes in natural language — such as "What was discussed in the last kickoff with team X?" or "Summarize all open items from this week." In addition, list_meetings returns an overview of available notes with metadata such as date, participants, and title, while get_meetings returns individual notes in detail, including linked transcript sections. This makes it possible to pull summaries, action items, and decisions from past conversations without manually scrolling through note history.

Folders, transcripts, and account information

For deeper research, Granola documents the list_meeting_folders tool, which grants access to publicly shared or company-wide folder structures, and get_meeting_transcript, which zooms into the full word-for-word transcript of a meeting rather than just the AI-generated summary. According to the official documentation, both tools are tied to the Business or Enterprise plan; the free Basic plan remains limited to personal notes from the last 30 days with a reduced tool set. get_account_info rounds out the feature set and returns account information along with the currently active workspace, which is particularly useful when multiple organizations are linked.

Authentication and enterprise access

For standard use, the provider states that a one-time browser OAuth sign-in is enough; credentials are then managed automatically for subsequent sessions. Organizations with centralized identity management can instead enable Enterprise-Managed Authorization: administrators configure in the Granola workspace settings under "Apps & Connectors" which users and identity providers get MCP access. This model allows central control over who can query notes through AI clients, instead of granting every user individual OAuth access.

Privacy and workspace boundaries

Granola's documentation emphasizes that the MCP Server strictly follows the actively selected workspace: notes from different workspaces are never combined or searched across. Personal notes are further limited to entries the user owns, that were shared directly, or that live in shared folders. Since meeting content often contains confidential business data, customer information, or internal decisions, this data enters the context of the connected AI model when the MCP Server is used. Before production use, review which AI models the chosen client relies on and align usage with your own data protection policies.

Who benefits from the Granola MCP Server?

The server is best suited for teams that already actively use Granola for meeting notes and want to reuse those notes in research, project, or reporting workflows inside an AI client without switching context — for example, to automatically build status reports from several meetings or to summarize open tasks across departments. Users on the free Basic plan mainly benefit from plain note queries; full functionality with folder access and transcript zoom requires a paid plan. A documented rate limit of roughly 100 requests per minute limits its use in very high-frequency automation scenarios.

Requirements

An existing Granola account and an MCP-capable AI client with OAuth and Streamable HTTP support. According to the provider, folder access and transcript zoom require a Business or Enterprise plan.

Installation instructions

Add the remote MCP server https://mcp.granola.ai/mcp in the chosen client (Claude: Settings → Connectors; Claude Code: claude mcp add granola --transport http https://mcp.granola.ai/mcp; ChatGPT: search for "Granola") and complete the OAuth sign-in with your Granola account.

claude mcp add granola --transport http https://mcp.granola.ai/mcp

Authentication

Browser-based OAuth with automatic credential management. For organizations, Enterprise-Managed Authorization (EMA) via compatible identity providers such as Okta is also available.

Required access permissions

Access follows the actively selected Granola workspace; notes from other workspaces are not included. Personal notes are limited to entries the user owns, that were shared directly, or that live in shared folders.

Transmitted or stored data

Note content and transcripts are processed through the Granola cloud and enter the context of the connected AI model during queries. Review the privacy policies of Granola and the model provider before running sensitive queries.

Security risks

Meeting notes and transcripts often contain confidential business or customer data. Access is limited by workspace and folder permissions; folder and transcript tools require a paid plan. According to the documentation, rate limits of about 100 requests per minute apply.
