WorkIQ Copilot
Official GitHub Copilot skill for using WorkIQ to query Microsoft 365 context, communications, documents, and schedules.

WorkIQ Copilot is an official skill from GitHub's awesome-copilot repository. According to the provider, it guides GitHub Copilot CLI through the WorkIQ CLI or MCP server so an agent can query Microsoft 365 data in natural language and use current organizational context. The primary source is the skills/workiq-copilot directory at github.com/github/awesome-copilot. Microsoft documentation describes WorkIQ as a preview capability that makes work knowledge from Microsoft 365 available to assistants and agents. This catalog entry therefore represents an instructional skill, not a standalone data server.
Purpose and operating model
The skill helps a Copilot agent turn a task into a precise information intent before making a query. Supported intents include an agenda, open follow-ups, document discovery, a summary of Teams messages, a stakeholder overview, or a risk summary. The agent is then expected to write a narrow request with a timeframe, topic, source, or project. Examples include finding recent documents about quarterly planning, summarizing messages in an engineering channel for the current day, or identifying upcoming meetings. Narrow prompts reduce irrelevant results and make the answer easier to review afterward.
Information areas
The official skill file says that WorkIQ can cover emails, meetings, documents, Teams messages, and people or projects. An agent can use this context to condense communication threads, surface schedule conflicts, collect named responsibilities, or combine evidence from several sources about one initiative. The response guidance favors concise summaries that call out conflicts, priorities, blockers, and tasks while avoiding unnecessary disclosure of confidential excerpts. Follow-up questions can narrow the request to a specific date range, project, or stakeholder.
Technical boundaries and prerequisites
The skill does not provide authentication and is not a replacement for WorkIQ or the Copilot client. For the preferred path, the provider's source instructs users to install the WorkIQ plugin in Copilot CLI. Alternatively, the standalone WorkIQ CLI can be provided through Microsoft's package and started as an MCP server according to the provider documentation. First use may require accepting the EULA, completing browser-based device sign-in, and obtaining Microsoft 365 administrator consent. A user without tenant approval cannot bypass that requirement by changing the prompt. Availability also depends on the selected tenant, Microsoft 365 permissions, and the preview status.
Privacy and safe use
WorkIQ queries can touch business email, calendars, documents, and Teams conversations. Microsoft says that access to WorkIQ data is permission-trimmed and policy-enforced, but the returned context remains sensitive. An agent should request only information needed for the task, review results before sharing them, and avoid copying complete confidential messages into public prompts. Teams should also distinguish the local instructional skill, the WorkIQ service, the Copilot client, and the model provider used for the final response. The skill itself does not store company data; concrete processing and retention follow Microsoft's official policies and the tenant's configuration.
Catalog classification and licensing
GitHub maintains the awesome-copilot repository as a collection of reusable Copilot guidance. Review the repository license and current usage terms for the authoritative legal position. The WorkIQ capability described here is labeled Public Preview by the provider. Skill Road does not state fixed prices or quotas because terms, licensing prerequisites, and billing can change. Before production adoption, teams should jointly review preview notices, administrator consent, privacy requirements, and the current official GitHub and Microsoft documentation.
