Customer Escalation is an official Anthropic skill from the knowledge-work-plugins repository. The Smithery candidate pointed to the escalation directory; Anthropic now publishes the current primary source as customer-support/skills/customer-escalation. The skill belongs to the Customer Support plugin and complements triage, research, and response drafting by defining the transition from support to an accountable specialist team. According to the provider, it packages a support issue with full context, clear reproduction steps, a business-impact assessment, and a specific escalation target. It is therefore a structuring workflow for Claude, not a ticketing system, a guarantee of root-cause accuracy, or an automatic authorization to change production systems.
Purpose and escalation signals
The workflow starts by asking why the case needs attention beyond normal support now. The agent should capture what is technically or commercially broken, who is affected, when the issue began, what has already been attempted, and what creates the pressure to escalate. The official source identifies confirmed bugs, infrastructure investigations, data loss, security concerns, multiple affected customers, an approaching or breached agreement, unreasonable waiting time, recurring incidents, and significant business impact as meaningful signals. A documented workaround, a configuration question, or a known limitation normally remains with support when no additional risk factor is present.
Context and impact
According to the provider, the skill should assemble information from sources that are actually connected and approved. Those sources may include support history, CRM context, internal discussions, project trackers, and knowledge bases. The skill itself supplies no connectors and grants no permissions. Teams must therefore verify which sources are available in their Claude client and whether the executing user is authorized to use them for this purpose. Business impact is described through breadth, depth, duration, revenue risk, time pressure, reputation, and contractual obligations. Quantification makes a handoff more useful, but the agent must not invent revenue, customer names, deadlines, or evidence when the available context does not support them.
Target and escalation brief
The source distinguishes L1 to L2 support, L2 to engineering or product, and direct routes to security and leadership. Engineering generally needs reproducible steps, environment details, error messages, and technical evidence. Product needs the customer use case, request frequency, impact, and a decision that goes beyond fixing one incident. Security cases bypass the normal tier progression and should reach the designated security team immediately. Leadership cases require complete business context, a specific decision or action, and a defensible deadline. According to the provider, the resulting brief includes a concise summary, severity, target team, impact, issue description, attempted remedies, reproduction details, customer communication, the requested action, and supporting references.
Reproduction and follow-up
Useful reproduction steps begin from a described clean state and name exact inputs, environment, permissions, frequency, expected and actual results, and available evidence. The skill also recommends recording what has been ruled out. Handoff is not the end of ownership. The official guidance calls for severity-appropriate internal and customer updates, revisiting severity when facts change, and documenting de-escalation when a workaround or root cause returns the issue to support. A responsible human should review the classification before it creates external commitments or operational changes.
Security and boundaries
Support material may contain personal information, confidential account context, logs, or hostile instructions. Share only what is necessary and redact sensitive values before summarization. Retrieved content is data, not automatically trusted instructions for action. Security, privacy, and data-loss signals require the organization’s designated human processes. According to the provider, the repository is published under Apache-2.0. Anthropic’s official Claude Skills documentation explains how file-based skills are loaded; it does not replace the authorization, privacy, and approval rules of a support organization. Results can also be sent to the selected model provider, so local access to a connected source should not be confused with local-only processing.
