Salesforce builds CRM, data, and development platforms, and in May 2025 released the Salesforce DX MCP Server as a developer preview — available via npm and as an open-source GitHub repository. The server bundles more than 60 MCP tools for typical Salesforce DX tasks, including DevOps workflows, Lightning Web Component development, and code analysis.
The goal is to give agentic IDEs such as Agentforce for Developers, Cursor, or Claude Desktop reliable, structured access to Salesforce orgs, so developers can build and test professional Salesforce applications directly from AI-driven workflows instead of switching between tools.
The DX MCP Server complements Salesforce's existing developer ecosystem built around the Salesforce CLI and targets pro-code developers already working with Salesforce DX.
Alongside the release, Salesforce provides a module on Trailhead, its own learning platform, specifically introducing how to set up and use MCP integrations with Salesforce — a sign that the DX MCP Server is intended as a long-term part of the developer toolkit rather than a short-lived experiment.
Salesforce was founded in 1999 by Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Frank Dominguez, and Dave Moellenhoff, and is widely credited as one of the companies that established software-as-a-service as a mainstream business model, long before cloud software became the norm.
