Postman

Postman operates a platform for designing, testing, managing, and distributing APIs, positioning itself as an "AI-native API platform" for development teams of any size. Its offering covers the full API lifecycle: Spec Hub and Workspaces for design, mock servers to simulate endpoints that aren't finished yet, an API client with a collection runner and performance testing for validation, and an API catalog with usage insights for ongoing operation.

With Agent Mode, Postman has built AI assistance directly into the platform to automatically create and maintain API workflows, complemented by its own command-line interface. The official Postman MCP server gives AI agents structured access to API definitions and context, so an agent can, for example, independently understand which endpoints, parameters, and response formats an API expects.

Postman started in 2012 as a simple Chrome extension that Abhinav Asthana built for his team's API testing at Yahoo, where it quickly gained popularity. The company was formally founded in 2014 in Bangalore together with Ankit Sobti and Abhijit Kane — turning an internal helper tool into one of the most widely used API platforms in the world, today used by companies including Microsoft, Meta, Salesforce, and Stripe.

With more than 30 million registered users worldwide, Postman has become a standard tool for API development, regardless of which programming language or backend framework a team uses.
