Nimistu MTÜ

Nimistu MTÜ operates the Estonian Public Business Register (Eesti ettevõtete avalik register), which aggregates company information from multiple official sources into a single database rather than collecting the data itself from scratch. In total, the project consolidates 79 public registries — including business registration data, tax records, court decisions, property records, and sanctions lists — into one searchable interface.

A core promise of the platform is traceability: according to the organization, every claim can be traced back to its source and date. Synchronization with Estonia's Business Register happens roughly every three minutes, close to real time, complemented by derived analytics such as the largest companies, fastest-growing businesses, and active industry sectors.

Its audience includes the general public, journalists, and business researchers looking for free, ad-free access to Estonian enterprise data. As a registered nonprofit association (MTÜ), Nimistu is funded by donations rather than commercial revenue and publishes its data openly under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 license — a model that positions Nimistu more as public information infrastructure than a for-profit business.

Because Nimistu consolidates raw data from 79 different sources, users no longer need to query each individual government registry separately and manually piece the results together into a complete picture.

Because every entry carries a source and date, information can be double-checked directly against the original government registry if needed, rather than relying solely on Nimistu's own processing of the data.
