Linear operates a system for product development designed for teams and, increasingly, AI agents, and publishes the official Linear MCP Server. As an issue-tracking and project management platform built specifically for software teams, Linear organizes work across four core areas: Intake automatically converts conversations and customer feedback into prioritized, routed, and labeled issues; Planning provides roadmap planning, initiative tracking, and PRD management to align teams from idea to launch.
In AI and automation, Linear offers Linear Agent — powered by Claude Opus 5 — an assistant that can handle complex tasks, draft requirements, triage issues, and manage workflows alongside human team members. In Build, Review & Ship, Linear simplifies code review with improved diffs and context; in so-called "coding sessions," the agent writes and tests code on its own before opening a pull request.
The business model is subscription-based; the company says more than 40,000 product teams use the platform, ranging from startups to large enterprises.
Linear was founded in 2019 by Karri Saarinen, Jori Lallo, and Tuomas Artman. Saarinen and Lallo had previously founded a Y Combinator startup that was sold to Coinbase; Saarinen went on to work as a design leader at Airbnb, and Artman as an engineering leader at Uber — their own frustration with existing tools at those companies was the starting point for Linear.
