GitLab

GitLab Inc. operates an AI-powered DevSecOps platform that consolidates the entire software development lifecycle — from planning and source control through CI/CD — into a single system, along with tools for AI-driven work across that lifecycle. The company describes its offering as an "intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, enabling teams and agents to ship trusted software at enterprise scale."

With the GitLab Duo Agent Platform, teams and AI agents work together on tasks: agents can, for example, automatically convert issues into merge requests or perform code reviews, while teams retain control over the overall process. Security checks such as static and dynamic application testing (SAST, DAST), software composition analysis (SCA), and secret detection are integrated directly into merge requests and IDEs, rather than running as separate downstream tools. A unified data plane for projects, releases, and code creates a single, reliable source of truth for the whole team.

The business model is built on an open core platform with commercial enterprise offerings; GitLab Flex lets organizations flexibly split annual budgets between seat-based licenses and usage-based credits.

Originally started in 2011 by Dmitriy Zaporozhets in Ukraine as an open-source project for his own team's use, Sytse "Sid" Sijbrandij joined in 2012 to build a company around it; GitLab Inc. was formally incorporated in 2014. Headquartered in San Francisco with roughly 2,500 employees, customers include NVIDIA, Lockheed Martin, and Deutsche Telekom.
