Firecrawl provides an API for searching, fetching, and interacting with websites, turning unstructured web content into clean, structured data suitable for language models. The platform covers three core capabilities: Search queries the web and returns full content from results, Scrape extracts clean data — as markdown, JSON, or a screenshot — with automatic JavaScript rendering, and Interact lets AI systems actively operate pages, for example to reach content hidden behind multi-step forms.
Firecrawl can also crawl entire sites, parse documents like PDFs and DOCX files, and extract structured data via custom JSON schemas. A key selling point is output efficiency: by stripping out navigation, footers, and ads, Firecrawl says downstream language models need up to 93% fewer input tokens.
The official Firecrawl MCP server lets agents in Cursor, Claude, Windsurf, and other MCP-compatible tools access these capabilities directly. The business model is usage-based, with a free tier of 1,000 monthly credits requiring no credit card, and paid tiers above that.
Firecrawl was founded as a Y Combinator company, recently closed a $75 million Series B according to the company, and with more than 185,000 GitHub stars and over 1.25 million developers across more than 150,000 companies — including Shopify and Canva — has become one of the better-known tools for AI-driven web data collection.
With "Alexandria," Firecrawl has also announced a knowledge library for AI agents that makes already-crawled and processed web content reusable, instead of repeatedly re-fetching the same pages.
