Figma

Figma operates a browser-based, collaborative design tool that lets multiple people work on the same designs at the same time — an approach that set Figma apart from traditional, locally installed design software from the start. Around the core Figma Design product, a whole suite of tools has since grown: Dev Mode translates designs into production-ready code, FigJam serves as a digital whiteboard for brainstorming, Figma Slides enables collaborative presentations, and Figma Make can generate code directly from text prompts.

The company says 95% of the Fortune 500 use Figma, including Airbnb, Netflix, Slack, and Microsoft. It offers tiered subscriptions for Professional, Organization, and Enterprise customers.

Figma was founded in 2012 by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace, who met as students at Brown University. It drew particular attention in 2022, when Adobe announced a $20 billion acquisition — the largest software deal of its kind at the time. US and EU antitrust regulators blocked the deal, however, leading Adobe to abandon it in late 2023 and pay Figma a $1 billion breakup fee. Figma remained independent and went public in August 2025 at a $68 billion valuation.

With Figma Weave, the company has also introduced AI-powered workflows for image, video, and audio content, while FigJam as a digital whiteboard targets early brainstorming stages rather than concrete interface design.
