Elastic

Elastic builds Elasticsearch, a distributed search and analytics engine, along with Kibana for visualizing the data it stores. On top of that foundation, the company published Elastic Agent Builder, a platform for building context-aware AI agents over your own data — its tools are exposed through an official MCP server.

The business model combines an open-source core with commercial offerings: Elasticsearch and Kibana can be self-hosted, or run as managed deployments through Elastic Cloud (Serverless and Hosted). For embeddings and semantic search, Elastic has also integrated models from Jina AI.

Elastic states that roughly half of the Fortune 500 use its platform, including BBC, Goldman Sachs, and OpenAI, mainly for search, security, and observability use cases. The MCP server listed in this catalog targets developers who want to connect AI agents directly to Elasticsearch indices instead of building a separate search infrastructure.

Beyond search itself, Elastic's "Workflows" feature combines scripted automation with AI reasoning natively inside Elasticsearch, instead of requiring a separate orchestration tool. For production use, teams can choose between local installations and the managed Elastic Cloud Serverless or Elastic Cloud Hosted options, depending on how much operational overhead they want to take on themselves.

Elastic was founded in 2012 by Shay Banon, after an earlier version of Elasticsearch started as a side project to help search recipes for his wife's cooking — one of the better-known origin stories in open source.
