Brex operates an integrated financial platform for companies, covering corporate cards, expense management, travel booking, bill pay, and banking. Core products include corporate cards with built-in controls for global spending, AI-driven automation for approvals, reporting, and real-time expense tracking, in-app travel booking with itinerary management, automated invoice processing through Bill Pay, and business accounts offering yields of up to 4.36% with FDIC insurance.

The platform leans heavily on automation: companies can set budgets with automatically enforced limits, and the company says 71% of all expenses processed through Brex are handled entirely by automation, saving an average of 756 hours of manual accounting work per year.

Brex serves three market segments — startups, mid-size companies, and enterprises — across more than 120 countries with over 35,000 client companies. Revenue comes from card fees, transaction processing, and treasury services.

Brex was founded on January 3, 2017, by Brazilian entrepreneurs Henrique Dubugras and Pedro Franceschi, both 22 at the time, as part of Y Combinator's Winter 2017 batch, after seeing firsthand how hard it was for early-stage startups to get a corporate card at all. Franceschi had already jailbroken the first iPhone 3G in Brazil at age 13 and co-founded the payments company Pagar.me with Dubugras at 15.
