Alex Newman

Alex Newman (known as "thedotmack") builds Claude-Mem, a tool that solves a fundamental problem of AI-assisted coding tools: loss of context between sessions. Without persistent memory, Claude Code "forgets" after each session which decisions were made or what was learned from earlier mistakes — Claude-Mem ensures that context is preserved automatically.

Technically, this runs through a five-stage cycle: at session start, context from previous sessions is injected; user prompts are captured; tool executions generate observations; in the background, Claude's Agent SDK extracts learnings from those observations; and at session close, summaries are created for future reference. The architecture relies on a local HTTP service built on Bun, a SQLite database with full-text search, and optional vector embeddings; automatically generated CLAUDE.md files summarize activity timelines and context. <private> tags let sensitive information be deliberately excluded from storage.

Installation happens via npx claude-mem install or the Claude Code plugin marketplace; besides Claude Code, the tool supports other environments including Cursor and Windsurf, and 28 languages overall.
