Research the metric before building the dashboard
KPI Depot MCP Server is the provider's official connection between its KPI reference library and an MCP-capable AI client. It helps research definitions and calculation guidance rather than automatically reading your company's operational data. That distinction matters: a reference service cannot establish the quality of your internal events or confirm how your reporting team implemented a formula. Use it to inform a discussion about measurement, not to certify a dashboard or infer figures the organization has never collected.
Move from a business question to a useful measurement
Start with a specific objective, such as reducing support delays without lowering resolution quality. Ask the assistant to explain candidate metrics before recommending one. Compare numerators, denominators, measurement windows and the events that feed the calculation. This is more useful than choosing a familiar acronym and assuming everyone interprets it the same way. Record which inputs your systems capture reliably, which are estimates, and which would require an additional tracking process before the metric can be used.
The documented interface provides three read-only tools for searching KPIs, retrieving details and requesting benchmarks. An assistant can navigate from a broad topic to the background of an individual metric. Keep the returned reference URL alongside its summary so another team member can inspect the evidence. A polished paragraph is not sufficient documentation for a reporting decision that will later influence budgets, staffing or performance reviews. Preserve the connection between the recommendation and the actual definition.
Free definitions do not mean unrestricted benchmark access
KPI Depot distinguishes anonymous access, free accounts and subscriptions. The free entry point provides definitions and basic guidance, while benchmark values and source attribution depend on access level. A response may expose useful metadata without revealing the underlying comparison value. Missing values should remain missing: the assistant must not replace them with a supposed industry average. Check current account entitlements with the provider before promising colleagues that a particular dataset will be available in their workflow.
Connect remotely and keep business context minimal
The integration uses a hosted Streamable HTTP endpoint, so basic research does not require installing an npm server locally. Account-linked access supports the documented OAuth and API-key methods. Store credentials through your client's supported facilities rather than pasting them into a shared conversation. Read-only access still has privacy implications when a search includes internal targets, customer names or sensitive business problems. Send only the context needed to locate the relevant reference information and assess the service's data practices.
Who should use it, and what should they verify?
Finance, operations and analytics teams can use the connector as a starting point for discussing suitable indicators. A benchmark is meaningful only when its period, sector, sample and measurement definition fit the question. Similar metric names do not establish comparability. Before approving a dashboard, review the original reference, the organization's calculation and the proposed interpretation together. The MCP interface makes research more convenient; it does not replace data modeling, agreed business objectives or the judgment needed to avoid misleading comparisons.
Source review and verification limits
This entry was reviewed against the linked primary sources on 2 October 2026. Features and setup instructions reflect the project's documentation rather than a complete functional test performed by Skill Road. Before production use, connect with non-sensitive example data, inspect the enabled tools, and compare responses with their original source. Changes to the service or your client may require a fresh review. The review date is not an uptime guarantee.
Requirements
An MCP client supporting Streamable HTTP. Extended benchmark data requires suitable KPI Depot account access.
Installation instructions
Add https://kpidepot.com/mcp as a remote MCP connection. Start with an unauthenticated KPI search; use the documented OAuth flow or API key when needed.
Authentication
Basic access without signing in. OAuth 2.1 with PKCE or an API key in Authorization: Bearer for account-linked access.
Required access permissions
Three read-only tools: search_kpis, get_kpi and get_benchmarks. No documented write operations on corporate systems.
Transmitted or stored data
Search terms and filters are sent to KPI Depot. The provider describes logging MCP requests; do not include confidential internal performance figures.
Security risks
Do not confuse benchmark metadata with unlocked values. Check periods, samples and sources. Protect access keys; returned content is not authorization to use other tools.
