Siri AI

Apple's fundamentally reworked personal assistant with onscreen awareness, cross-app actions, and a dedicated Siri app.

Siri AI is Apple's fundamentally reworked personal assistant, unveiled in September 2026 as part of Apple Intelligence and the new operating system generation spanning iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. Unlike the classic Siri, which mainly handled simple voice commands, timers, and weather queries, Siri AI is described by the provider as understanding natural, multi-turn conversations with follow-up questions, being aware of the user's personal context, and being able to take actions across apps on its own. Alongside deep system integration, Apple ships an all-new, dedicated Siri app for the first time, letting conversations continue across devices instead of restarting with every launch.

Personal context and onscreen awareness

A key new capability, per Apple, is the ability to search personal information such as messages, emails, and photos to answer specific questions — say, locating a particular document or a missed appointment. Onscreen awareness adds to this: Siri AI can analyze whatever is currently shown on screen and act on it, for example pulling a snippet from a webpage into a message or processing an image directly. Visual intelligence extends this further through the camera, letting users photograph real-world objects, text, or places and ask questions about them.

Conversation, app actions, and writing tools

Per the provider, Siri AI holds "rich, natural conversations" with follow-up questions rather than isolated one-off commands, and answers questions on virtually any topic by drawing on web knowledge. App actions let users compose emails, edit photos, or update calendar entries without manually opening the relevant app. The built-in writing tools can generate a full draft from a short prompt on request and revise existing text for tone and length. Together, these building blocks add up to an assistant that goes beyond simple question-and-answer behavior and completes multi-step tasks across apps.

Availability: devices, languages, and regions

Siri AI requires compatible hardware: according to Apple, at minimum an iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max or iPhone 16 and newer, an iPad mini with the A17 Pro chip or iPad models with M1 or later, Mac devices from M1 onward, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Watch from Series 9 or Ultra 2. The rollout begins as a beta in English, with French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish support planned to follow the next month, per the provider. Siri AI is explicitly not available in the European Union at launch, and its rollout in China is delayed while Apple works through regulatory requirements.

Pricing

Per Apple, Siri AI's core capabilities ship at no extra cost as part of iOS 27 and the parallel operating system versions; an existing, compatible Apple device is all that's required. For expanded functionality with a higher daily usage allowance, Apple has announced a future paid tier without disclosing a specific plan or price at the time of review. Anyone already using iCloud gets the added benefit of existing sync across their own devices.

Privacy and processing

Apple states that some requests are processed directly on the device, for example through Spotlight, the app index, and the central system orchestrator. Requests that need more compute run through Private Cloud Compute, where, per the provider, personal data is "not stored nor made accessible to Apple or anyone else." The new S11 chip additionally processes audio through a hardware-isolated Secure Exclave, and conversation history plus audio summaries are end-to-end encrypted.

Who Siri AI fits

Siri AI suits people inside the Apple ecosystem who want a voice and text assistant that goes beyond simple commands and is deeply integrated across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro. Anyone already relying on native Apple apps benefits most from the app actions and personal context awareness. Users outside the EU with compatible, mostly newer hardware can get started in English from the beta launch; anyone who needs German-language support or broader device coverage will have to wait for the announced language rollout or future EU availability. For cross-platform or purely browser-based use without Apple hardware, the catalog's ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini entries are a better fit instead.
