ChatGPT

OpenAI's AI chatbot for text, code, and images – from unlimited basic chats on the free plan to agent features and premium models on Pro and Business.

ChatGPT is OpenAI's AI chatbot and one of the most widely used AI assistants in the world. It answers questions, writes and edits text, explains complex topics in plain language, helps with programming, and, in its latest iterations, can act as a work agent that carries out multi-step tasks on its own. Unlike a classic search engine, ChatGPT doesn't return a list of links but a directly usable answer in a conversation — including follow-up questions, code execution, image generation, and, depending on the plan, access to your own files and connected tools.

Free

Per the provider, the free plan offers unlimited text chats with the base model along with limited access to file uploads, image generation, voice chats, deep research, and the Codex coding assistant. For occasional everyday use — quick questions, short drafts, a first taste of coding help — this is often enough, and no credit card is required.

Go

Go builds on Free with more messages that use tools, more file uploads, more image generation, more voice chats, and a longer memory across past conversations. It's aimed at people who already use ChatGPT regularly but don't yet need advanced reasoning models or automation features.

Plus

Plus is the first tier with access to the most capable models for complex tasks, significantly expanded message and upload limits, more precise image generation, expanded deep research, and a longer memory. It also adds projects for organizing related chats, scheduled tasks, custom GPTs, and expanded access to the Codex coding assistant as well as ChatGPT Work — the agent feature for multi-step tasks right on desktop, in the browser, and on mobile.

Pro

Pro is built for heavy, professional use: per the provider, it offers five or twenty times the usage of Plus, maximum compute for demanding reasoning tasks, unlimited and faster image generation, the most extensive deep research, and the largest context window and memory. It also includes the most Codex tasks and early access to new features before a wider rollout.

Business and Enterprise (teams)

For teams, OpenAI offers ChatGPT Business with centralized billing, admin controls, and a choice of seat types. Commercial terms differ by seat type and billing cadence; the provider's official pricing page is the source of truth. Per the provider, workspace data is not used to train models. ChatGPT Enterprise goes further with additional security and compliance features such as SAML SSO, SCIM, role-based access controls, IP allowlisting, and data residency across multiple regions; pricing here is negotiated individually with the sales team.

Security and privacy

Per OpenAI, all data is encrypted in transit using TLS 1.2 and at rest using AES-256, access is restricted through strict controls, and a security team maintains 24/7 on-call coverage. Free, Go, Plus, and Pro users can opt out of having their own chat history used for model training in the settings.

Which plan fits whom

Anyone who only uses ChatGPT occasionally for everyday questions will get a long way with Free. Regular users without budget for the priciest models will find Go a reasonably priced middle ground. For demanding work or study tasks — long research sessions, complex coding projects, many parallel projects — Plus is worth it, while Pro only justifies its price under genuinely intensive, professional daily use. Teams with multiple users and a need for centralized administration turn to Business or, with higher compliance requirements, Enterprise.
